“delivering high
quality care…”
“putting your
needs first…”
“providing person
centred care…”

Philosophy

  • The Moorings delivers the principles of person-centred care, where we see a resident with a mental disorder as an individual, rather than focusing on their illness or on abilities they may have lost.
  • We concentrate on our resident‟s unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.
  • The care staff are trained in delivering cognitive stimulation therapy with music and reminiscence exercises being the main tools used.
  • We adopt positive (non-restrictive) interventions as the preferred method of providing support to our residents experiencing behavioural disturbances.
  • Staff are trained to strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and caring atmosphere.
  • The design and the environmental layout of the Moorings provides good signage with orientating and “cueing” features such as well-lit areas, clearly marked entrances to day rooms, familiar features, an inviting and homely style.
  • The home is equipped with a sensory room and a sensory garden. Both of which allow residents to:
    1. Relax
    2. Improve memory association and recall
    3. Promote communication and interaction
    4. Lower anxiety and thereby reduce reliance on medication.
